    If you were born poor, you have to struggle to stay alive more than others

    You need to be careful with what you put on both sides of "is".
    The sentences in this post are correct.
    In the first sentence here, you are equating one infinitive verb clause with another.
    "to be born = to struggle." (where = stands for 'is'). It's debatable whether this is an actual equality.
    In your original, you had: It is a struggle for survival to be born bereft.
    "to be born bereft = a struggle for survival."
    This isn't true.
    "to be born bereft may lead to a struggle for survival."
    "to be born bereft may imply a future struggle for survival."
    "to be born bereft is [=] a pity / a disaster / ...." This is probably true.
