make an omelet without breaking eggs
Dear teachers,
Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?
He was a lucky fellow because he was able to make an omelet without breaking eggs.
make an omelet without breaking eggs = achieve something without labor; take things in one’s stride
Thanks for your efforts.
Regards,
V

The actual idiom from which this is taken is "You can't make an omelette without breaking eggs" which means that you cannot achieve a task without taking certain actions first. In your sentence, yes, it appears that this man can do something almost magically, without taking the relevant steps or actions that normally lead to that outcome.

The idiom also conveys that you can not be afraid of changing the status quo (breaking the eggs) if you want to achieve something better.

Re: make an omelet without breaking eggs
Difficult to comment without knowing the full context, but it seems to me that the person described was being portrayed as a skilful manager. He is able to get things done without upsetting anyone. He can "make an omelet without breaking eggs" = He can push through the changes he wants and make people believe they're what they wanted all along.
