shedding a lining and blood
What does "shedding a lining and blood" mean?
"At twelve I knew a few basic fact about menstruation - it somehow involved babies and shedding a lining and blood everywhere - and was possessed by an unholy fear of it".
Thanks.

Not a teacher.
"Shedding a lining and blood" is not one idea in that sentence. It is one of three:
She knew it involved:
a)babies
b)shedding a lining
c)blood everywhere
It's not a well-constructed sentence.

I think the sentence is almost okay. But I would have two sentences, and we need to add 'I' before "was possessed".
At twelve, I knew a few basic facts about menstruation. It somehow involved babies and shedding a lining and blood everywhere, and I was possessed by a unholy fear of it. (as 'Dave' indicated)
"What does.........mean?"
babies - being now able to have a baby
shedding a lining - shedding the innermost layer of the uterus
blood everywhere - vaginal bleeding
