cry stinking fish/ I don't give a snap of the fingers
Dear teachers,
Would you tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?
To put in bluntly, “It doesn’ttodo cry stinking fish”, but as one old friend to another I don’t give a snap of the fingersfor Lawrie’s opinion. He’s a pompous ass! (Cronin’s “Hatter’s Castle”, book III, chapter 6)
cry stinking fish = show oneself up
I don’t give a snap of the finger = I don’t care a damn
Thank you for your efforts.
Regards,
V
