another connotation of "cold turkey"

Dear teachers,

Would you tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

“Sam” I said, “I don’t know where to find anybody who would put money into a play that’s already a cold turkey.” (Caldwell’s “Call It Experience”)

cold turkey = easy booty/ quarry, something which is on the brink of ruin

It doesn't sound like easy booty/quarry to me, both of which would imply the ability to make money from them. It just sounds like a dead play that atrtracting no audience, so it would be investing in a failure IMO.
