What is the difference between egalitarianism and communism?

Here are the definitions of communism and egalitarianism from Merriam Webster online. What is confusing to you about the two?

In short I would say communism means everyone shares everything (material goods), while egalitarianism means everyone is equal (in power and/or status).

Besides, the terms are generally used in different spheres of life.
You can say, "We have a very egalitarian workplace policy", or even, "Our household is very egalitarian - we all have our responibilities, and we all share in the benefits." The household might also share a Marxist attitude to the sharing of property, but it's unlikely that this would be referred to as communist household.
Communism isn't primarily concerned with the equality of humans. It's an economic system.
