of high order/ from on high
Dear teachers,
Would you tell me your opinion concerning the interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentences?
He has always been distinguished by intellectual ability of high order.
of high order = of the first order = first rate, first class; of the highest degree; eminently; notably
We gazed down into the valley from on high.
on high = from above
An order came down from on high that lunch breaks were to be half an hour and no longer.
The disaster was seen as a judgment from on high.
from on high = from God
Thanks for your efforts.
Regards,
V

from on high = from God. In my opinion, here it means "from somebody of higher rank"
Thanks for your efforts.

Hope it helps.

Correct.
An order came down from on high that lunch breaks were to be half an hour and no longer.
It came from the boss.
The disaster was seen as a judgment from on high.
