How to report this statement.
"She came here yesterday"
He said that she went there the previous day or He said that she had gone ....
This depends on whether you are still where "he" was when he made the statement. "He said that she had come here the previous day/the prior day/the day before" OR "He said that she had gone there..." If the person who said it, you, and I are in that spot, than "come here" is okay. Note my back-shift of tenses.
"They come to visit me"
He said that they go to visit me or He said that they went to visit me?
This is the same problem. From the perspective of the original speaker, it's come. You could keep the present tense with this one, since it implies habitual action, unless you know that it no longer happens.
Please respond asap.Thanks.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
