was married or had been married for 5 years
If somebody aked me "Are you married?" and I would have been divorced for about 4 years at the moment of speaking, would it be correct to answer " I was married for 5 years or I'd been married for 5 years"?

Is it because when someone says:"I had been married for 5 years" you expect him to tell you what happened next?
Or perhaps there is another reason for that.

Yes, if somebody says "I had been married for five years" more information is expected.
"I had been married for five years when I got divorced", for example.
