Default Practice to avoid dropping final consonants

    Hi,

I have been told that I tend to leave off final consonants while speaking.
My problem is I don't know what I should do to avoid that.

I have fixed other problems in my English speech such as 'th' or 'american R', mainly by repating the words, but I am at my wits' end about the 'final consonant problem'. I don't seem to be able to focus on this aspect when I am talking.

What kind of exercises should do to eleminate this problem?

    Thanks,

    MG.

Can you give any examples of things you have said when you have been accused of dropping final consonants?

My guess is I do not pronounce the bold letters in the following words.

    Cart
    Partnership
    Climb
    Going

I don't, of course, know exactly how you pronounce them, but it is possible that the person who told you that you were leaving off final consonants is hyper-correcting. The b of 'climb' is not pronounced, and there is no final /g/ sound in 'going'. If 'cart' and 'partnership' come at the end of sense unit, then the final consonant is not exploded, and may not be obvious to the ear.

Who told you about your dropping of the final consonant?
