Post short form answers to 'didi there use to be...'

    Dear friends,

Would you please tell me how we give an answer in a short form to questions like 'did there use to be many dinosaurs on the earth'?
---'No, there weren't'? or 'No, there didn't use to be'?

    Thank you!

I can't imagine ever asking or being asked that question, but I would say "yes there did/no there didn't".

Did you mean this kind of question is not reasonable or we have other ways of asking similar questions? thank you!

    Dear friends,

Did there use to be many dinosaurs on the earth?

Firstly, please tell me if I understand this question correctly - if I ask this question, it implies that I know there aren't many dinosaurs on the earth now, but I want to know if there were many dinosaurs before. Is that right?

Secondly, since there aren't any dinosaurs now, so this question is kind of weird. Am I right?

    Thank you!
