Oh, I wasn't arguing, and it didn't seem you agreed with what I meant to say.

And as to spontaneous utterances, I think that must be most of our speech, and grammar (whether traditional or modern or new or the latest thing) governs nearly 100% of it, if you ask me.

P.S. Why do people associate the concept of grammar with old-fashioned grammar classes? Grammar is the set of conventions we share (mostly) about how we structure our speech to avoid ambiguity, be clear, get our ideas across, and so on.
