    Thank you!
Yes but they have different meanings (very slight to my ear).

Sorry, but I have to completely disagree. Your original is not okay, because it lacks a comma and the word "is." Adding those changes the meaning significantly, not slightly.

On a scale of 1 to 10, English is a 2. Hardly important. Math is also a 2. Hardly important. English is as important as math. (Neither is very important, but they are equal.) You can use that same sentence is you thought they were both 9s.

English is a 9. English is so important!
Math is an 8 or maybe a 9, or maybe even a 10. Whichever, it's very important.

English is so important, as is math.

Please note the comma and the verb "is."

English is so important as math is NOT okay.
English is as important as math -- okay.
English is not so important as math -- okay, but it makes math more important.

I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

English is so difficult, Even though you are native-speakers, you have different ideas to a same grammarpoint.
