Five fingers "is" not equal. Here, We are using the "fingers" as a collecetive noun.
Is it correct usage?

Do you mean even? "Equal" means having the same value or identical. "Even" means divisible by two. Do you mean that five is not divisible by two?

Sir, I mean about the verb "is"
Five fingers "is" not equal though it belongs to one hand.
Here We are using "is" instead of "are", I think "are" is correct,and one more,Butter and milk "is" essential. here we are using such type of usages.
I can't understand on what basis it is using.

Butter and milk are essential. Plural subjects take plural verbs.
