250-odd, 40-odd why do they use "odd" after a no. eg: Every weekend, the country's 250-odd malls report roughly 1.5 million footfalls.

Re: 250-odd, 40-odd '250-odd' represents any number between 250 and 260.
The exact number is either not known, is not important, or varies from week to week as new malls open.
