    a. Tom is playing surfing. The board used for surfing that Tom is stepping on is called surfboard.

    What should I call the board? A water ski.
    What should I call this kind of activity? Waterskiing.
    Is the expression the tail of the speedboat right? Rear is better.

    The rear of a boat is called the "stern," but "rear" will probably be understood better by most.
