I got this sentence from a book and I am not sure if the hightlighted words are grammatically correct. Please help.
Jaris decided that any friend of Sam Purdy's deserved an additional bolus of hard-ass attitude.

Not a teacher.
The structure that puzzled you is "determiner + noun + of + possessive".

that friend of Jack's
