create/originate/generate
Hello,
Consider the sentence: "The painting was created by Caravaggio". In my opinion this sentence sounds natural and instead of "created" we can use "painted" with exactly the same meaning. What about "generated" and "originated" as synonyms for "created"? Does the sentence sound natural in these cases?
"The painting was generated by Caravaggio"
"The painting was originated by Caravaggio"
Thanks

Re: create/originate/generate
We simply would not use those words.

Re: create/originate/generate
A painting is painted. Created is not even a great word choice.
Maybe... The painting was .... done by Caravaggio.
The painting was.... knocked off by Caravaggio. No, painted is it.

knocked off? Are you sure that it's the correct option? My dictionary doesn't provide the meaning of "knock off" synonymous with "create" or "paint". What's more "knock off" has the meaning "to kill someone" and that's why I was wondering if we can really use this phrasal verb in the meaning being discussed.
Thanks

Here's an example taken from Longman:
knock something ↔ off - produce- to produce something quickly and easily:
Roland makes a lot of money knocking off copies of famous paintings.
