Default Venus is the goddess of love in ancient Roman mythology

    Dear friends!!!

When describing gods and goddesses existing in some mythologies which construction should I use:

    1) Venus is the goddess of love in ancient Roman mythology
    2) Venus is the goddess of love in the ancient Roman mythology
    3) Venus is the goddess of love according to ancient Roman mythology
    4) Venus is the goddess of love according to the ancient Roman mythology

    Thanks!!!

Using "the ancient Roman mythology" implies that there is a modern Roman mythology.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
