strike out
Hello everyone,
You have within you the art of influencing others, but until you believe it and have Confidence, you will find it hard work. You can do it, and have but to strike out. You can begin on easy exercises at first, but you must have Confidence from the start. Some men discover this by accident, and do not know the reason of their success. You know the reason, now , and can do as well and better than the man who has stumbled upon the truth.
Does "strike out" mean to try, give it a try here?
Thank you.

Your interpretation is correct. I would add to this that it means to begin some activity or venture with confidence.

Yes it does. This is old-fashioned language though.
