Any difference between while and whereas in my sentence?

Sentence1:
The Union wants a 15 % increase in wages, while/whereas De Beers is offering 7.5%.
Sentence2:
Unilever reported half-year earnings up 10 % while/whereas the six-month operating margin fell 0.2 % points.
