    Question Gerund and present participle!

    Dear Sir,

1)I have confusion in using gerunds and to-infinitive

example, "It doesn't oust the possibility of that period to occur again" whereas I should be using "It doesn't oust the possibility of that period occuring again".

    2) I have difficulty in differentiating between gerund and present participle.

    Please give me some guidelines.

    Waiting for your reply.

For this one, I suggest you read the numerous previous threads on "verbing vs. to verb". Search for those terms, also for "-ing form" and "to form", etc.
There should be some thread title at the bottom of this page that you can start on.
