    Default To sit (for) an exam.

    Is 'to sit for an exam' correct? I'm sure I've heard it with the preposition but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

    I wouldn't use it, but it doesn't sound incorrect to me.

    You can find the preposition at sit for an exam - Idioms - by the Free Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.
