Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to give me your considered opinion concerning the interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

I always put some back in my work.

to put some back in one’s work = to make a maximum physical effort

Yes, but the sentence sounds a bit strange- it could be used but my back is more common.
