Can someone tell me whether the expression 'hall of residence' is used only for the accommodation of university or college students (during the school year)? If yes, how do you say the accommodation of secondary school students (during the school year)?
In the US, we would not say "hall of residence" at all. We do have the term "residence hall" but that's far, far less common than "dormitory" or just "dorm."
What dorm will you be in? Our dorm room is really tiny! Will you be living in one of the dorms or off-campus?
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
"Residence hall" would surely be understood in any schooling context.
Thanks:)
'Hall of residence' is common at British universities. At boarding schools, pupils sleep in dormitories or study-bedrooms in their 'house'.
My prior post simply had examples showing common usage.
