Default Help with adverbs in a tag line.

    Hi,

Not being English native speaker I want your feedback on a tag-line for a personal blog about health focused on food, exercise and spirituality.

"Eat clean, move freely, live consciously"

    Not sure about the "-ly".
Is "Eat clean, move free, live consciously" better?
"Eat cleanly" sounds wrong and seem to refer to table manners rather than what you eat.

    What do you think?

Stay with your original for these reasons:

    1. Your first instinct is usually your best.
    2. It's a personal blog, so should reflect your way of speaking, not necessarily some 'perfectly correct' grammar.
    3. I think it best expresses what you want to say. You're right that 'eating cleanly' sounds like you just want people to be tidy, and 'move free' sounds more like a statement on Human Rights than about exercise.

Keep it simple and make it your own voice, your own words- go for it!

While I agree that it's yours and you need to use the words and voice that work for you "eat clean" and "eat cleanly" both sound odd to me. I do eat in a clean environment. I wash my food. To tell me to "eat clean[ly]" is very odd. It's so odd that it interrupts my reading of the rest of what you have.

    Do you mean "eat well"?

I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    (1) You say that you want some tag lines for a blog devoted to

    food, exercise, and spirituality.

    (2) I most respectfully suggest that tag lines should be snappy (short and

    to the point).

    (a) I believe that many Americans prefer adjectives, not adverbs (and certainly

not -ly adverbs), for tag lines.

    (3) Here are some tag lines used in the States:

    Eat smart.

    Keep fit.

    Think positive.

    Thanks for the input!
I'll go with my original tag-line.
