    Default on this coming Sunday

    Hello,

A native speaker I was talking to said "I'm going to.... on this coming Sunday". I thought a combination of this + time phrase doesn't require any prepositions. Or is it 'coming' that changes the whole thing?

    Thank you.

What we say when chatting and what is technically grammatically correct are frequently two different things!

Does that mean I don't have to worry my grammar needs a major overhaul?

I certainly wouldn't worry about your grammar based on one sentence spoken by one native speaker in one conversation!

What a relief Seriously though, if there were such a question in a test, should I go for "this coming Sunday/weekend/week etc" ?

    Yes.

I'm going to London this coming Wednesday.
I'll be taking my driving test this coming week.
He'll come to my birthday party this Monday coming.

Note the possible difference in word order. "...this coming + day/month..." is more common, but we do use "...this day/week coming..."
