Hello there,
I was wondering about any nice, elegant ways of admitting that one was wrong, and his statement(s) should not be considered any more.
Example, commenting an article:
X: Well, I think [opinion]
Y: You didn't understand the point. Read the whole article.
*X re-reads the article, or reads what he/she missed out before*
*X notices their opinion was actually off-topic and missing the point*
X: [admitting mistake]
I was thinking about..
"I see. My mistake, disregard what I said."
"I retract my previous statement" (this seems.. overused. I guess this was in some movie and I _don't_ want to be seen as quoting by the less able)
"My bad".
Basically, I'm looking for fun ways to say "My bad. Ignore what I said".
Formal, informal, anything.
Thanks!
'I stand corrected.'
'Oops! Colour me embarrassed.'
'Beam me up, Scotty.'
There are so many ways you can say this.
Oops. I sure misread that. Never mind!
Oh, boy, was I off-base there!
Really - it's limitless.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
*** NOT A TEACHER ***
A careful re-reading your excellent article has rendered my previous statement invalid. Would you be so kind as to ignore that?
Or:
Having carefully read your outstanding article again, I noticed I had missed an important point. You are, of course, correct.
Or simply: "You are right. I overlooked something."
I admit that I was wrong.

My fault. I'm sorry.
