Actually, I don't mind being contradicted - I have been known to make a mistake occasionally.
It was the form of the contradiction that might appear aggressive. It is often more tactful to phrase such things in the form of a question, "Do you mean 'quotation marks'?"
Not only is this more tactful if the person addressed has made a mistake, , but it saves yourself from embarrassment if the person addressed has not made a mistake.
