Yes, the green rectangle is called the "football pitch". There are different names for the areas where different sports are played.

Football pitch
Tennis court
Netball court
Rugby pitch
Fencing piste
Baseball diamond
Golf course
Hockey pitch

That's interesting. Why would they do that?

It's also interesting that men don't play field hockey in America. I've just read on Wikipedia:

The men's team isn't as widely known within the country as the women's team.

I don't think I know of another sport whose women's version is more popular with the public than men's one, even in just one country. Certainly, men's (field) hockey is more popular here.

Why would boys play on a girls team? Who knows? They say it's cause they love the sport. Realize that in America "gender equity" is a big thing. Girls have the right to play on "boys" teams if they so choose. So it's only fair that a boy can play on a girls team.
