    Default Though/Nonetheless

The words emblem and symbol often appear interchangeably in day-to-day conversation without causing undue confusion.______, the distiction between the terms is explicitly accurate.

    A) In contrast
    B) In spite of the fact that
    C) As matter of fact
    D) Though
    E) Nonetheless

The key is D, but I think it could be E too, wrong?

If that's a comma at the end of the blank space, Though is decidedly wrong.

Before I suggest a correct answer I have to get my head round what it's supposed to mean.

I too am confused by the choice of D as the correct answer. If you have copied the question correctly and there is indeed a full stop after "confusion" and then a comma after the blanked out word, then "Though" certainly doesn't work.

A is wrong as there is no contrast involved.
B doesn't work because we wouldn't follow "In spite of the fact that" with a comma (and it doesn't really fit the context).
C is incorrect because the correct wording is "As a matter of fact..." (and it isn't suitable for the context).
D, as we've said, doesn't work after a full stop or before a comma.
E, for me, is the only possible answer.
