Hello :)
I know that might sound a legal question rather than a linguistic one.
What is the difference between a decree and an edict?
I understand that both are types of administrative decisions, but on a higher level (presidential level or so).
But what is the difference between the two?
Thank you.
It appears that a decree may have greater legal force than an edict.
Decree can also be used as a verb; edict can't.

Thank you.
Let me ask another question, how do you call in English the written decision of appointing an employee in a institution?
Appointing decree/edict/decision/resolution/verdict?
Thanks.
None of the above. You could call it a ratification.
The appointment of an employee is ratified by an official letter of confirmation.
