    Smile the use of plural and singular verb to be

    Which sentence is correct?

    "Two hundred dollars is a lot of money"
    or
    "two hundred dollars are a lot of money"

    "Two hundred dollars" should be considered a single unit, so you should use the singular, "is." See example 8 in this link.

    "Two hundred dollars is a lot of money." This is correct. Two hundred dollars is taken as single unit.
