Default taking vs doing an internship

If I were a college journalism student, could I say "I'm taking an internship at a local newspaper." or "I'm doing an internship at a local newspaper." to mean that I'm trying to benefit from on-the-job experiences? Which of the two is acceptable?

I would use "I'm doing an internship..." or "I'm an intern at/on a local paper".

That would normally be used only in the context of accepting an offer of an internship.
