    Smile Tire or Tyre

Should I use the spelling 'tire' or 'tyre'?
Does the sentence context affects the spelling choice? I mean, I am not sure when I should use tire and tyre.

    Thanks for the help!

For the rubber thing on a wheel, it's 'tyre' in BrE and 'tire' in AmE.

The verb meaning 'become tired (sleepy)' or 'become bored' is 'tire' in both varieties.

    NOT A TEACHER

    (1) If you wish to spell like an American, do please use tire.

    (2) I am sure that you know that American and British spellings are often different.

    (a) American has "jail."

    (b) British has "gaol."

    (i) When some Americans see "gaol," they think that it is a typo (misspelling) for

    "goal"!

    Gaol v.s. Jail.

Also, we might run a tire over a curb, while a Brit would run his tyre over a kerb.

No, we wouldn't - we know that the pavement is for pedestrians

But since Thatcher's day, you can kill them on the roads with impunity. After all, pedestrians can't pay road taxes, can they?

Are we, strictly speaking, adhering to an objective description of the truth here? I was a student during her first term as prime minister, when she was far from popular, and I can't remember this one.

And where I live, it's apparently for maniac cyclists as well.
