    Default Saxon Genitive

Which is the correct Saxon Genitive: James' or James's?

You'll find both, but most people today prefer James's.

    NOT A TEACHER

    (1) I most respectfully suggest that most Americans would write something like

"I am going to James' house."

    (a) I feel that most Americans feel that the "extra" s is unnecessary and even

    "weird-looking."

    (b) Personally, I write James's, but my reading shows me that I am in the distinct

minority of Americans who do so. In fact, probably some (many? most?) Americans

do NOT even pronounce James' as Jameses.
