It was when my middle school graduation was drawing near that my teacher first brought up the idea of my studying abroad.
Hi,
Could anyone help me check whether the sentence makes sense or not?
I want to know whether choosing "It was when ~~~ that~~~" format was a good idea in conveying the meaning.
Also, is it grammatical to add "my" in front of "studying abroad"?
Thanks

Hello Rainous,
5jj has given you excellent advice. Correct in every way.
I would like to propose a more concise statement, just for the sake of variety.
As middle school graduation drew near, my teacher suggested I study abroad.
