    Default when he comes/came back

My brother decided to go abroad for further study, with the intention of getting a good job when he_______(come) back.

The given answer is 'came'. But I think if the decision was made very recently, then his coming back will be a future event and we should use 'comes' rather than 'came'. Am I right?

    Thank you in advance.

You know, I agree with you, definitely would have chosen "comes back"!

I would use "comes" as well. As long as the coming back is still in the future.

If he already came back, then "came" is correct.
