Default keep up with / keep an eye on

    Hello!

Could you tell me if it is correct to use "keep an eye on" in this sentence instead of "keep up with"?

We don't keep up with the latest fashion.

We don't keep an eye on the latest fashion.

    Thank you,
    heyt

We don't keep up with the latest fashion. The main meaning is to do something as much as other people or move as fast as other people. (e.g. You're doing the exercises really quickly, I can't keep up with you.)

We don't keep an eye on the latest fashion. The main meaning is to watch someone / something carefully. (e.g. I have to keep an eye on my children whenever we go to the park. They're really playful.)

    Thank you,

"fashion" refers to what people do and what they wear. To be in fashion usually means to wear the correct (as is determined by a large group of people) clothing and to act as others act. For example, in certain parts of 19th Century America is was quite fashionable for women to wear large hats.
We don't keep an eye on the latest fashion.
This means that we don't pay attention to, or do not regard, the current fashion as being important.
    Thank you,
