What is the verb for boxing? Play boxing or do boxing?
Are these correct?
I am playing / doing boxing tonight.
I used to play / do boxing 20 years ago.
"To box" is the verb. I am boxing tonight. We're going to watch some guys boxing. I used to box when I was younger.
Thanks.
But is it possible to use it as noun with another verb? Maybe go or do?
Not usually.
Context is always important; labelling is rarely important.
You might hear "I'm going boxing tonight" but only in the same way we would say "I'm going swimming". What it means is "I'm going somewhere where I will box".
"To box" is the verb. Not all sports/activities can be used in this way, but this one can. Here are some more:
"To swim"
"To wrestle"
"To rock-climb"
"To skydive"
"To fence"
"To ski"
