How should I read "a 4x100m relay" - 'a four times one hundred meter relay" or "four by one hundred meter relay"?

The "4x400m relay" is frequently simply referred to as the "4 by 4" (in BrE at least).

Just one little question - do you say "a hundred" or "one hundred"?

It doesn't matter much, but I think you'll find that commentators tend to say four by one hundred to distinguish the race from the longer version.
