Default had been travelling or had travelled

    Hello,

I'm wondering if 'had travelled" is possible in the sentence below:

All the family were sitting at the table and listening to Jack, who had been travelling in Europe.

I think "had travelled" is less natural, but I'd like to make sure.
    Thank you.

All the family were sitting at the table and listening to Jack who at the time had been travel(l)ing across Europe.

If he had not long returned from his travels, then 'had been travelling' is the more natural form. If the travels were not recent, then 'had travelled' is the more natural.

Context is always important; labelling is rarely important.

Do I understand it correctly that if Jack was telling about his journeys made in the 90s, I'd have to use "had travelled"?
I think I got it... thank you!

Thanks Bennevis, but I doubt there was much need for the corrections you made.
