Hi,
I tried to understand the meaning of sentence below:
"He was given an ugly BROWN WOOLLEN JUMPER"
Can you help me?
What the meaning of the words in UPPERCASE LETTER?
Thank you for your attention,
Emerson
Context is always important; labelling is rarely important.
Which word was confusing you?
A sweater (US term) made of wool that was brown in color.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
Hi Barb_D!
The sentence that you gave me as example helped me to understand what was wrong.
When I translated "jumper" by Google, the translation was something like "a person who jumps".
In fact, jumper im my sentence is something like "a coat".
Thanks for your help!
It's not a coat. It's more commonly called a "sweater". Here is a picture of a brown woollen jumper: http://fashionnewdesign.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/wool-sweater.jpg
Hi emsr2d2!
Thanks for the correction!
I'll pay more attention the next time!
Once again... thank you all!![]()
