HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY
He was feeling bad. It was so bad that we had to call for an ambulance.
He was feeling so bad that we had to call for an ambulance.
He was feeling bad. He felt so bad that we had to call an ambulance.
He was feeling bad, so much so that we had to call 999.
In your example, I would not use "It" at the start of the second sentence as there is nothing for "it" to refer back to. The only things mentioned so far are "he" and "feeling bad", neither of which fit "it".
