Are you sure the question is correct? I can't think of any way to paraphrase it with the gerund. Let's see what the native speakers say.

The only thing that comes up to my mind is "It isn't easy to be travelling alone in a foreign country.", which souds kind of funny to me.

I have no problem with "It isn't easy travelling alone in a foreign country".

It's not easy being me.
It's not difficult eating too much cake.

It's certainly used in spoken BrE.
