I know where you're coming from Is the idiom ' I know where you're coming from' only used in the progressive form or could it be also used in the simple tenses ? For instance: ' I know where you come from'

Teacher Re: I know where you're coming from No. When it means "I understand" then we only use the progressive.

"I know where you come from" would be understood to refer to someone's hometown or home country.
