Hello.
What's the difference between a reminder and an advice?
If so, Why would some foreigners regard an advice "gratifying" and a reminer "rude"? After all, they both tell you something
A reminder is to bring something to your mind again.
"It's the end of the month, remember to turn in your reports."
Advice is a suggestion about how you should do something or live your life.
"You should give up on being an actor and get a real career."
"If it floats or flies, rent, don't buy."
Most people don't mind being reminded of something they wanted to remember or do. Most don't like being told what to do or how to live their life, especially if the advice is unsolicited.
I don't know that people dislike a reminder. You, for example, can remind your sister to renew her driver's license. That is not instruction, it is merely telling her that her license is about to expire and she should get a new one.
I will give you some advice on truck driving. I will show and tell you exactly how to shift the two transmission levers at the same time. In addition, I will give you advice on what truck stops have the best food.
Advice and reminders are different things.
In a way, yes. But consider a bear and a flea. They are similar in many ways. Both animals: ingest, digest, and excrete food. Both animals require oxygen. Both animals are dangerous to other animals: a bear has the physical ability to kill and eat other animals while the flea can carry organisms which can, when injected into another animal, cause sickness or even death. One can then, say that the bear and the flea are similar in many ways, but, are they really similar? A bear can weight over a ton while a flea weights less than an ounce. A bear, due to his physical size, tends to control a geographical area while a flea has no such size or control. It is the same with advice and reminder. Both may give a person information, but there the similarity stops. If I remind you to go to school it is not the same as if I give you advice on which classes to take in school.
