Hello,
Does it make sense to say, "Thank you, you're the best around!" when somebody helps me and I'm really glad about that?
It's like there are plenty of people around me (who I don't know), and I say,
"Of all of them you're the best to me."
(Not meant to be offended against the other people.)
Thanks.
Thank you, you're the best! sounds more natural to me.

I agree with the Editor: it is not necessary to add "around."
You're
the best!
the greatest!
amazing!
special!
(The last two I credit to a contributor on the Web)
If this were the 1920's (No, I was not alive then!) you could say:
You're the cat's meow!
Gratia!
(This is Latin and means thanks. I thought since it was my native language I might share my knowledge with you guys.)
Anyway, I was thinking about the movie "Karate Kid" where they sing:
"you're the best around
nothing's gonna ever keep you down!"
I agree that "Thank you, you're the best!" sounds more natural, though.
Probably I'll just drop the around, even though I kind of like it..

(1) If you like it, then you should use it. You have the right to say what you want so
long as it is not "crazy" English. In fact, I remember hearing "You're the greatest/ best
there is!" So why not use "around," if you wish to?
(2) I have never heard anyone say that Latin was his/her native language. I had always
understood that Latin is a dead language, except for Roman Catholic priests who
speak it in churches. Could you explain? Thank you. (I am guessing that other
members have also been puzzled by your listing Latin as your native language.)
Thank you again, TheParser!
I wish I could send you a private message regarding your second question, but I can't send such messages (yet).
(I guess I have not made enough posts, no idea.)
As soon as I can I will answer your question.
I'm afraid there is no such option.
The only option (regarding messages) is "Enable Visitor Messaging".
Well, I have a lot of foes on the Internet (not on UsingEnglish but on other forums), and they could stalk me to find out any information about me.
I'm not paranoid, just careful...
