Of course, verbs! They are the MAIN verbs of their sentences, while the other verb phrases are in subordinate clauses.

    ***** NOT A TEACHER *****

    (1) The teacher has already given you the answer. May I add a point?

    (2) It might be easier for you to understand if you add the introductory word "that."

    (a) I hope that I can visit my mother.

    (i) In speech, we often leave out the "that."

(ii) In writing, it is a good idea to use it.

(iii) In analyzing a sentence, it helps if you remember that there is a "that."

    (3) Tom: I hope.

    Mona: What do you hope?

Tom: That I can visit my mother.

    (4) "I can visit my mother" is a noun clause because it = something.

    Tom: I hope something.

    Mona: What something?

Tom: (That) I can visit my mother.

(In that sentence, "that" means nothing. It is just a "smooth" way to introduce the

    noun clause.)

    Welcome to Using English.
    Please note a few things:
    - The pronoun "I" is always capitalized.
    - English sentences start with a capital letter.
    - In this forum, we expect people to use full words, not abbreviations used in a chat room.

We know and expect that people learning English will make mistakes, and that's fine, but the things listed above are a few things you can do to show that you're serious about learning English.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
