Default As is used~ vs. As it is used~

    Hello,

I am wondering if the following sentence is grammatically correct.

ex. What is the meaning of scale as is used in the above paragraph?

If correct, is any difference in meaning between the following two sentences?
(the first sentence has no "it")

    1. What is the meaning of scale as is used in the above paragraph?
    2. What is the meaning of scale as it is used in the above paragraph?

Sentence 1 is not grammatical. "As is used" does not fit here.
    Sentence 2 is fine.

I would suggest a third option though: "What is the meaning of "scale" as used in the paragraph above?"

Thank you for your reply. It cleared my confusion about the sentence. :)
